Fans of the new film have been causing havoc on movie review sites by attacking reviewers who post negative reviews of the film. There’s no denying that Batman fans can be fairly passionate about the character and about the film’s director Christopher Nolan, so much so that they have become known collectively as Nolanites.
But when questioned about this issue at the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in London. The film’s director had this to say:
I think the fans are very passionate about these characters the way a lot of people are very passionate. Batman’s been around for over 70 years and there’s a reason for that. He has a huge appeal, so I think you know people certainly respond to the character
He also made light of some people’s claim that the film’s villain Bane is loosely based on presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.
I’m not sure how to address something that bizarre, to be honest. I really don’t have an answer for it, it’s a very peculiar comment to make
It is nice to see the director sticking up for the fans but lets not get carried away. It is just a film and personal attacks on someone who doesn’t share your opinion is uncalled for.
